COTI’s Compliant Privacy: The Missing Link for Institutional RWA Adoption
Standard Charter recently forecast that RWAs could grow to become a $30 trillion market by 2034 — eclipsing the entire current crypto market in less than a decade. But even as the regulatory pieces fall into place, there’s one major dealbreaker: privacy.
Until now, institutions have been reluctant to adopt public blockchains, despite the clear advantages. The need to protect customer data has been incompatible with the transparency of blockchains. TradFi institutions have typically addressed these issues by holding sensitive data off-chain — centralizing elements of their products and creating honeypots for hackers.

Our leadership in the RWA space has been comprehensively demonstrated over the past few weeks, thanks to a series of high-profile announcements and events. Let’s take a look back at how we’re carving out our presence in this burgeoning market.
Digital Euro
Following successful involvement in the Bank of Israel’s Digital Shekel Challenge last year, we have joined the European Central Bank (ECB)’s CBDC project. COTI is now a “Pioneer Partner” on its Digital Euro project, alongside other well-known organizations in the payments and technology space, including Accenture, KPMG, and TATA.
The project will focus on “conditional payments”, where the provenance of assets must be verified before exchange. COTI’s Privacy-on-Demand solution delivers the ideal infrastructure to achieve this, enabling compliant privacy for cross-boarder transactions. The technology can be used to power on-chain transactions, efficiently at scale, demonstrating COTI’s capability to modernize payments infrastructure across the $15 trillion Eurozone economy.
The ECB is targeting the beginning of 2026 for the Digital Euro launch, and is expected to select infrastructure providers before then.
Africa Tokenization Council and SAAIBC
In March, we announced the Africa Tokenization Council (ATC): an initiative focused on driving AI and blockchain adoption across Africa and the Middle East.
ATC was formed to highlight the opportunities and tackle the challenges of nation-scale RWA adoption, through a series of roundtables. The first of these was held in Dubai in April, and proved to be a great success. COTI core team members co-hosted 40 dignitaries and forward-thinking leaders from across government, investment, policymaking, and technology.
All attendees were decision-makers who are well-placed to turn words into action. The roundtable raised many questions around tokenization, including trust-building, interoperability standards, and compliant privacy. As Joshua Maddox, COTI CEPO, noted,
“People were there who can dictate policy, who actually do the asset tokenisation, and capital allocation — so we were able to look at the full spectrum of needs. We walked away with some very clear connections between practitioners and government on how to take things forward.”
At the event we also announced our involvement with the Saudi Arabia AI and Blockchain Center (SAABIC), designed to lead the way in discussions with leaders across MENA and Africa, and focused on turning policy into practice.
ATC and SAABIC will continue with further roundtables throughout 2025 to build on the foundations established in Dubai.
Plume: Scalable RWA Infrastructure
We continue to nurture relationships with major RWA providers, including Plume — one of the first public L1 blockchains purpose-built for real-world assets. Our partnership is progressing and will pair Plume’s bespoke RWA infrastructure with COTI’s Privacy-on-Demand, helping provide the confidence institutions need to on-board at scale. USDC.e On COTI
We recently announced that the first stablecoin has been deployed on COTI! USDC.e is a permissionless, bridged version of Circle’s USDC — one of the most popular and compliant stablecoins in the DeFi space, with a market cap of over $60 billion.
Developers can integrate USDC.e into their own applications, and the first liquidity pool is already live on Bancor’s Carbon DeFi, allowing traders to hold value in a price-stable asset and deploy it to trade and earn.
